DG/CHP Using Dairy Farm Biogas
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority
(NYSERDA –
http://www.nyserda.org) has contracted with the Greenhouse Gas
Technology Center to perform ETV verifications on five new Combined
Heat and Power installations in New York State.
The second technology evaluated in this series is an internal
combustion engine based DG/CHP system fueled with biogas. The
Patterson Farms near Auburn New York has installed an anaerobic
digester for farm waste management and installed the DG/CHP system
to generate power and heat on-site using the digester biogas. The
system generates nominal 200 kW power and up to 800 MBtu/hr heat for
use on the farm.
The principle parameters for this ETV Verification are:
-
Impacts on
local and regional emissions (NOx, SO2, CO
and CO2);
-
Heat recovery
fuel-to-heat efficiency;
-
Power generated
and fuel-to-power efficiency;
-
Net change in
fuel efficiency;
-
Power Factor
and impact on power quality.
